Thai Massage History.

Thai Massage incorporates Hatha Yoga, acupressure and reflexology with origins dating back 2500 years.

Traditional Thai Massage, also called Thai Yoga Therapy, Nuad Phaen Boran or Nuad Thai is a unique form of healing massage that incorporates Hatha Yoga, acupressure and reflexology with origins dating back 2500 years.

As Buddhism spread from India, so did this form of healing massage. Monks in Thailand originally used this therapy as one element of their healing practices, which consisted of dietary advice, the use of herbs, meditation, and what we now call Thai Massage. This form of massage involves manipulation using stretching techniques and gentle pressure along the meridians or energy lines of the body.

Ancient Medical texts were carved in stone in attempts to preserve the tradition of Thai Massage. Diagrams inscribed on the walls at the temple of Wat Po in Bangkok illustrate one of the fundamental principles of traditional Thai medicine: that energy flows through the body along ten major channels, or sen lines. If an obstruction occurs in any of these channels it is believed that pain or disease results. Traditional Thai Massage is a deep, full-body treatment, which includes both stretching of the joints and muscles and applied pressure to these sen lines.
